OzMods' latest addition to their 1/144 scale range is the
Martin B-57B Canberra. This is the second of the Canberra family released by
OzMods.
The B-57B comprises 33 parts in dark grey, low-pressure
injection moulded styrene; plus five resin parts and two parts in clear
vacform plastic.
Parts breakdown is similar to the earlier Canberra B.2, but
the cockpit tub, seats and control yokes are supplied in salmon coloured
resin. The seats and sticks are tiny in this scale, but they are nevertheless
nicely detailed and crisply cast, even having harnesses moulded in place.
Surface detail on the shiny dark plastic parts is by way of
finely engraved panel lines. The panel lines are quite crisp and consistent,
but the overall surface of my sample suffers from slight scratching and a few
tiny lumps on the larger parts. This appears to be a result of the moulding
process rather than damage in transit, and will be very easy to eliminate with
a few minutes' sanding and polishing.

Engineering is well thought out for a limited run kit,
especially of this small size. The wings are supplied in upper and lower
halves, and are attached with the assistance of locating tabs and slots.
Ailerons and flaps are moulded with the upper wing halves to keep the trailing
edges as thin as possible. However, some further thinning of the trailing
edges will be desirable to establish a convincing scale appearance. The
horizontal tail is also secured with locating tabs.
The undercarriage may be depicted raised or lowered. Wingtip
tanks are provided.
Two
vacform parts are supplied are for the canopy (one, plus one spare) Markings
are supplied for two aircraft - a US aircraft in SEA colours, and an overall
black Pakistani Canberra.
The instructions are simple - a one page exploded view
diagram. This is entirely acceptable for such a simple kit.
It is nice to see the relatively neglected subject of the
Canberra being developed in 1/144 scale by OzMods. The improved detail in this
release via the resin cockpit details is especially welcome.
Recommended.
