Vickers Wellington Mk.I/III
1/48 scale - Preview

Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Wellington will be available online from Squadron.com

Trumpeter's Australia distributor, J.B. Wholesalers, brought a complete set of sprues from the forthcoming 1/48 scale Wellington kit to the Melbourne Model Expo this weekend. Max from J.B. told me that this was the third set of sprues off the producton line, but that there may still be some changes before the final production version hits the hobby shop shelves.

It was interesting to see the sprues in person. The first impression is that the geodetic effect on the wings and tailplanes is not as pronounced as it appeared in photographs seen recently on the IPMS Philippines website. This may be due to flash photography overly emphasizing the high points of the surface texture in the earlier photos. Surface texture is a very subjective issue, but in my opinion the surface should look fine under a coat of primer and paint. The geodetic pattern will be visible, but should not be overwhelming.

J.B. Wholesalers expect that the final version of the kit will be delivered in the next 8 to 10 weeks. We will bring you a full review upon the kit's release.

Thanks to Max Shaw from J.B. Wholesalers for permission to photograph the sprues.
